Decision Overload
How many of you thought that 2021 would be a reset?
Last year was full of having to make decisions. I was on decision overload. Our church closed for a season and we learned how to livestream overnight. Then church opened back up so should we meet? Should we not meet? Where’s the toilet paper? Mask? No mask? Clorox everything that comes in the house? Clorox only some things? Work? Don’t work? Restaurants are open, then closed. Stay six feet apart. On top of those decisions and changes, the hardest part was losing friends over politics or misunderstandings.
Stressful, to say the least. I know you have your own lists, too. When the new year came along, things didn’t suddenly change. More relationships were lost, loved ones passed….the stress continued.
In the midst of all of this, I felt powerless. The question I found myself asking is, How do you remain powerful when you feel so powerless?
This is probably more of a podcast than a post but here’s what I’ve learned. In the middle of wanting to throw in the towel (have you ever been there?) I made a DECISION. This is where powerful starts. With a DECISION. Stop. Breathe. Look up. Look in. Look up again. Regain your center. Your center is only found in Jesus. Perspective hits. Ahhh, there. Right there.
In that place where you behold the face of Jesus, you once again find your identity and purpose. It’s not in this life. Sure, we should live this life with intentionality, but this life is also full of ebbs and flows. What we choose to do when things appear dark is as important as what we do when the light is shining. We live for eternity, not for the here and now. Whew!!! Doesn’t that help! That’s what I call living powerful. And having a reset!
We are to be followers of Jesus Christ. What does that look like? Look at Jesus. He said in Luke 2:49, “I must be about my Father’s business.” He was powerful because He beheld the Father. His eyes were looking up. His ears, eyes and heart were listening…not to the mockery of men or to the political atmosphere. He focused on the kingdom of God. He made a decision. In the middle of DECISION OVERLOAD, choose the ONE DECISION that will make all of the other decisions less stressful. It’s the only way to become and stay powerful.
Quitting is always an option….let's just be real!! BUT for a powerful person who relies on Jesus instead of their own strength, quitting doesn’t stick around as an option anymore. He’s our life. The very breath we breathe. More to say on this later!!
You are loved!!!
