Good Friday, Quarantine Style
Jump back with me to the night before Jesus was betrayed. He sat with His disciples and said, “By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:35) This is an incredible statement. But the most significant part of this instruction is that He spoke it at a table of His closest friends that included his future betrayer, Judas. That kind of betrayal would really hurt - to be crucified by someone who walked with Him and learned His ways. What a LOVE Jesus showed even to those who would crucify Him. He put love first. He put us first.
I felt moved by the Holy Spirit today when reading this story. He spoke to my spirit and said, “One of the greatest ways you can show Me honor is through loving others well.” Wow! And love looks like something. As Christians all over the world are celebrating this day, Good Friday, what better way to honor Him than to love.
Yes, we are in quarantine this Good Friday! But that does not mean we cannot obey His command to love. It gives us a great opportunity to be creative. Let’s lift up Jesus through love! Glorify Him through love! Humble ourselves through love! That is the example that Jesus gave us.
This time is a beautiful time of falling more and more in love with Him. Even though it is an uncertain season and we do not yet know what the future will hold, we can take this opportunity to draw close to the heart of our Father. And as we experience His love growing inside our hearts, we must be intentional to reach out to those around us and share His love. Like Jesus told His disciples on the night before He was betrayed, the world will know we are His disciples through the way we LOVE one another. Let His light shine through you!
As I’m sitting in my office preparing for our online Easter service, I can feel the pleasure of the Lord. In the midst of one of the most holy weeks for Christians, we will not allow quarantine to keep us from celebrating Jesus! We may not be able to rub shoulders with each other, but we can worship together from our own homes. See you for Easter Sunday on our Facebook live service!
You are so loved!!
